The US Post Office has announced they will issue a stamp in honor of Edgar Allen Poe on the anniversary of his birth 200 years ago. The stamp will be issued on January 16, 2009, in Richmond, Virginia.
The portrait was done by Michael J Deas. Here's a sneak peek at the stamp. Well done, and long overdue.
I saw your posting on DorothyL and thought I'd check out the stamp. It looks to be a nice one and I'll certainly be grabbing up a bunch of these come January. As someone who routinely sends Halloween cards and other types of spooky mail, this is going to be a lot of fun. Thanks for the head's up!

Transplant to the Midwest from Virginia, the setting for my first novel. "In The Dismal Swamp" is a mystery about a special agent for the US Fish & Wildlife department, who must uncover the secret behind a woman's death, deep in the Great Dismal Swamp Wildlife refuge. Was it an accidental drowning, as some claim? Or was it...Murder.
